2018 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 3.0t review (video)

Mid-size premium sedans can get very expensive, especially the flagship models. Infiniti Australia recently slashed $5000from its contender, the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport. So now it is, potentially, one of the best bargains of the year.

Yes, okay, prices do start at $74,900. This isn’t exactly cheap. However, if you weigh it up next to its nearest rivals, it is the most affordable of the class. Specifically, we’re talking about the 280kW Jaguar XE S (from $92,700), the 232kW Lexus IS 350 Sports Luxury (from $83,500), and even the 270kW Volvo S60 Polestar (from $89,990). The Infiniti stands ahead of these key rivals. And that’s before you reach the Germans.

The 260kW Audi S4 AWD (from $99,240), the 240kW BMW 340i (from $91,200), and the 287kW Mercedes-AMG C 43 (from $107,900), all seem like a rip-off compared with the Q50 Red Sport. Especially when you take into account the fact the Infiniti is the most powerful of them all. It’s powered by a 298kW 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6. So, what’s the catch? Let’s take a look and find out if there is one.
